No More Smooches

Smooch Clients and Friends,

As of today October 26th Smooch is closed for business.

We have made the heartbreaking desicion to go our seperate ways and pursue photography on our own. Smooch was a combined effort and was "our baby" therefore neither one of us would dream of taking on the name ourselves.

We were hoping to wait until after the holidays to seperate, but due to personal reasons have deceided to go forth with it now.

If you have an appt in the future you will be contacted individually to make arrangements.
If you planned on making an appt we encourage you to come to either one of us. We will still be taking holiday appts seperatly and would love to see you.

If you have had a recent appt and have not completed your order you may still do so through either one of us. We hope to have all smooch orders closed out by Dec 13th though.

Smooch's life span was short, but we met some amazing people and took some amazing photographs. We shared your lives and memories, and made some awesome friends.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your support and love.
You made smooch a success and we wish it could have worked out.
It is best for both of us to pursue our careers on our own and we hope that you will all understand.

Anthohy celebrated his first birthday last week, so of course we met up with him this past weekend to capture this special time!

He wasn't real sure of us and did not care for his picture being taken, but we worked our magic and got some adorable shots.

The whole family was there to celebrate with him, and we grabed a family shot in their "sunday best".

A Missouri Wedding:: Zach & Sarah Lawson

Last week my husband and I(Kelly) made a very long trip all the way to Missouri for a dear friends wedding. Bruce was in the Navy with Zach and when he called to say he was getting married we just knew we would be there. I was honored when they asked me to photograph their wedding and made it our gift to them.
We arrived friday night to 90 degree weather and beautiful blue skies..something that Rochester hasnt seen in quite sometime now...
There was nothing but laughter and good times had by all.
It was my first time attending a wedding AND photographing it...there came a time where I HAD to put the camera away so I could enjoy the night.
My wonderful husband Bruce was my second shooter that day. He wasnt quite sure of me when I handed him a camera and said "go", but he caught on and got some really awesome shots! It was a wonderful experience to work beside my husband and share such a loving event like this. thanks again babe for all your help and hard work!!!
The family and friends that gathered for this day were all so sweet and welcoming, we felt like we were a part of their very special bond.
Zach and Sarah are an amazing couple and we are so glad that they found each other and have their lives to share. We love you guys!

Six Smooches for Kaden!

My nephew turned 6 years old last weekend!!!
It's amazing how time flies, I feel like it was yesterday that I got the phone call that he had arrived...as I sat extremely pregnant with my own first baby boy Bruce :)

They grow so quickly, and Im so proud of him and the boy that he is.
He is growing into a handsome little man and I loved smooching him for his birthday!

This past weekend we smooched Logan and Justin! We've smooched them numerous times but it just never gets old. We love seeing our clients and their families grow and change. In just two short months Logan has grown so much and Justin went from looking like a cute little boy to a very handsome young man. It's also "The Loganator's" first Halloween so we took some new props and backdrops and had fun with the boys! :) Many, Many smooches to all.

This past friday we had the honor of photographing Jaime and Tommy Story's Wedding!

It rained all week long, but when we all woke up friday there was nothing but blue skies and sunshine. It was a chilly, windy first of October...but it was beautiful.

Jaime put so much time and effort into every little detail of her very big day and it showed! Everything was perfect, and very special.

We had a blast capturing their very special day. They are very obviously head of heels in love and we hope that their day was everything they dreamed it would be.

Sweet Baby Vincent :: Smooched!

Last Night I had the honor of meeting little Vincent.
He was SO tiny and SO sweet.
His parents Erica and Joey welcomed me into their home and let me play with him for hours!

From the moment I walked through the door you could honestly FEEL the love that this famiy has created. Vincent is obviously much more than their precious first born child, he is a blessing and a gift...and its very apparent that Erica and Joey not only know this but they cherish every single second they are with him.
This is what makes our job SO rewarding. To walk into someone's lives and witness the absolute LOVE and devotion to one another....it makes our hearts melt.
We wanted a lot of typical sleepy newborn shots, but once the little guy opened his eyes and started checking things out, he did NOT want to miss anything!
We got a lot of sweet shots, and I hope that the LOVE that was literally FELT in that home can be seen in the photographs.

Smooching the Smith's

Yesterday we had the pleasure of smooching a old friend of mine. I haven't seen her since we graduated 10 years ago. It was great seeing her again and meeting her husband Scott and their two beautiful daughters Laryssa and Katie!

We had a ball and the girls are so cute together! We actually had to yell "Laryssa" to get Katie to smile.. that's sisterly love right there!

What is a "MINI SESSION?"

It's our way of offering you a great deal and still being able to book regular appointments AND believe it or not have time with our families this holiday season! SHOCK! We know! ;)

We have rented out space in a dance studio in gates, so for the mini sessions you come to us (different from our norm we know.)You can pick one of three different days! We have a Friday a Saturday and a Sunday available. The days must book pretty much solid. If we only get one or two sessions booked on one of the given days we will cancel the rented space for the day and just come to you. Our hope is to book out the three available days. We want to spread all the smooches we can! :)

De'Marr has been Smooched!

About a week ago we got a visit from baby De'Marr!
He was so tiny, we just wanted to eat him up!
We spent quite some time with him, probably an equal amount of photographing and cuddling!

Last minute smooches to go around

Typically, we only work on Saturday, Sunday (and sometimes Friday's) However, we got a phone call from an old client last Monday night.. how could we turn away the chance to spread more smooches. Again, Wendy had family coming in from out of town;her niece and nephews. She told us that they had not ALL been together (with her kids) in YEARS! That's alright we took care of that and got a really nice picture for Grandma in the process... We call that a win/win!

Christine is frequently smooched so when she called us and said she had some family coming in from out of town and really wanted some shots of everyone and her new Niece, Haley of course we were there in a heartbeat. Audrey, Ben and Anthony know the drill so there really wasn't much "work" involved there more like lets just have fun and take pictures of it! (That's "us" all the way around.)It was Haley's first time being smooched and she did fabulous! Smiles and all! We couldn't ask for a better shoot!

Three Men and a Baby

Ok, truth be told it was a lot more than three men, but there was in fact a baby! Today, Smooch was asked to just get some candid shots of Brian and his groomsmen getting ready for his big day. They were a great bunch of guys even after a flat tire and a parade got us just a tad behind.. good thing we know how to work even better under pressure! :) Brian and all of his guys were great and willing to do all the crazy things we asked them to... CONGRATULATIONS to Brian & Jessica!

We also photographed little Logan (one of our Labor of Love babies) today to get his newborn shots. It was great to capture even more memories for Holley & Jeremy and their beautiful family. More family shots to come but for now here's a peek SMOOCHES to all!

Remembering Reese

A year ago today, a beautiful Angel entered heaven.
Her name is Reese Deblase and she was 3 years old.

We first met Reese when we worked at a portrait studio a while back.
She was a sweet little firecracker that we truly enjoyed photographing. We got to know her mom Kristi, and later her dad Don. While I (Kelly) was pregnant with Layla, Kristi brought Reese in for a session (she did great as always) and told me she too was pregnant with her second child. Little Gavin was born around the same time as Layla. The entire family would come in and get their portraits done and they were truly some of our very favorite clients. A Perfect Family.
When we heard the devastating news last year that Reese was no longer with us, we couldnt function for a while. We were heartbroken. How could this be true?
We cant imagine one of our own children not being with us anymore.
Our hearts go out to Kristi, Don, and Gavin..then and always.

Im sure it is a horrible, heartbreaking feeling that they have every single day, but yet Kristi and Don and little Gavin are some of the strongest people that we know. They have done so much to honor this precious little girl, including starting their own little charity of taking aREESEnt portrait of families facing terminal illness or death. I had the oppourtunity to go with Kristi on a shoot for a beautiful family...who are still fighting, but are doing well now.

Today we just want Kristi, Don and Gavin to know that we LOVE you, we are thinking about you, and we will NEVER EVER forget Reese's smile.
Smiles are not something that we take for granted, and hers was always special to us.
She was a miracle, and is a beautiful angel now.

Food For Thought

Read this story on a forum today.
Another photographer, another area, someone we don't know.
It made me cry.
Felt the need to share it with our clients.....our friends.

Normally, my friends become my clients, but my clients are my clients (people I've never met before)
However, last year I met a couple for the first time to do their maternity portraits. We had a blast and really hit it off. The wife and I were excited that our husbands hit it off too. They came back for newborn portraits and this past spring they came back for Family Portraits.
Over the year I began to consider them friends. We weren't super close or hanging out all of the time, but they were more than just clients to us (which is not normal for us.)

Due to weather we had to postpone their session twice. The third time we were going to postpone again because it just looked like it was going to pour on us. If we had to, I wouldn't have been able to do their session until the end of July/first of August. They decided to just suck it up and make the best of it. It waited until we were done to rain. It was an awesome session and one of my favorites.

Last week the husband was killed in a car accident. It has been pretty tough on everyone, but all I kept hearing was "I'm so glad you were able to get their family pictures so they have something recent of him." I was kind of thinking these statements were so insensitive. A man lost his life. A wife lost her husband. A baby lost her father. Who the hell cares about pictures during this time??

Yesterday while at his funeral, the person giving tribute to his life shared the following story:

Paraphrased since I don't remember it word from word. (names have been changed)

""Mary" is always wanting to get pictures done and she is always making "John" go with her. Well, she wanted family pictures done again and "John" was complaining about having to go get them done, but he lived for making his wife happy so they went.
A few weeks ago he called me up excited about a project he was working on. He was just finishing it up when I pulled into the driveway. He came out and said, 'Wait here. I've got something to show you.' He went in the house and brought out this large framed picture and in it was the photograph you see out in the hall of his wife, daughter, and him. He puffed out his chest and beamed and said, 'Ain't that the coolest thing ever.' Before he could show me what he had been working on, he wanted to show off his beautiful wife and daughter."

A little background on that image. Their little baby is just starting to walk. At the time of their session all she could do was stand with mom and dads help. She did not want to sit for any of the images, she wanted to stand. I had a vision of an image of mom and dad at eye level with her standing so I had them kneel by her. I wanted them to look at the camera, but as I was setting up I looked through the lens and saw both of them just looking at their baby and they had so much love in their eyes and smiles and their baby was looking right at me smiling, I decided to take the shot. I took a few extras in case it didn't turn out, but of course it did. It ended up being dad's favorite and he choose that image. I think mom wanted a more formal one, but this couple seriously lived to make each other happy, so they got what dad wanted.

It was touching to hear that story yesterday and it made me realize how important those family portraits really were to him and his wife and how even more important they are now.

I learned a couple things with this past week and yesterday.

1. Don't postpone. There would be no recent family portraits of their new family if we had waited til now.

2. You never know how much an image means to a person, especially to someone you thought was only humoring his wife.

I don't consider myself a great photographer yet and these images will never win an award, but they are some of my favorites and now hold an everlasting place in my heart, as I am sure it does for my client's/friend's heart as well.

This story and these words are so true. We may be in the "business" of photography, we may have packages and prices, specials and contests etc but we like to think that what we are really doing is capturing a moment. Taking the opportunity to MAKE A MEMORY.
This is not an advertisement, I didn't post this so you will call us up and make an appt with us.
This is simply food for thought. Thought of the day: go home and hug your children, kiss your husband/wife, call your mom/dad, shoot a quick email to your sister/brother, send a letter to grandma/grandpa, text your friend a smiley face.
Don't take the day for granted.
Cherish everyday. Let the ones that you love know you love them.
We feel very fortunate to be photographers, we are the ones who can make a moment last forever.

Isabelle Catherine was born the afternoon of 7/28. We had the honor of being there to capture a miracle coming into this world. "Princess Belle" as she had come to be known since her name was a secret weighed a very solid 9 lbs 5 oz. She is a beautiful girl and we are so lucky to have been able to SMOOCH her! Congrats to the Werner Family! Norma was our Mothers Day contest winner but she got her real prize yesterday!!! ;)SMOOCHES!!!!

Kirste & Ryan (Our Bride and Groom from last week's Casa Larga wedding) received a complimentary photo shoot when they booked their wedding a while back. Because they live all the way in Australia, we did a photo shoot of their adorable little girl Summer instead of the typical engagement session. And if you know us, give us a baby any day to make us smile from ear to ear! :) They are some of the sweetest people we have met and we had a blast photographing their wedding, and their cute family!

What does every girl dream of being? ....a pretty ballerina

You all know US "The Smoochers." What you may not know is Kelly herself was once a dancer. Me...well not so much! I've never danced a day in my life. Always wanted to but if you know me you know I'm about as graceful as King Kong. HOWEVER, I got to live vicariously through our ballerina for the day; Miss Hailey. She brought along her Aunt who jumped in for a few shots. We know they had fun because they were all giggles. I don't know about Kelly but I know my body is sore just from watching her bend and twist in ways I didn't realize were possible.. but we all had a blast and it shows!
